Families of FANA 5K

Please join us on Sunday May 19, 2024 for Families of FANA 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk at Como Lake Park. Both the 5K Run and 1 Mile fun walk are scheduled to start at 1pm.

What is FANA? We are a network of over 400 families who have completed or are in the process of completing an adoption through FANA. FANA (the Spanish acronym for the Foundation for the Assistance of Abandoned Children) is a private orphanage located in Bogotá, Colombia. We provide adoption and educational services to families who have completed or are in the process of adoption. In addition, we promote a social and cultural connection for families from Western New York, Ontario, and Pennsylvania to foster our children’s appreciation and understanding of Colombia. Our all-volunteer, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization raises funds for FANA in Bogotá and supports local children’s charities in Western New York.

START/FINISH
The 5K race will start and finish at Como Lake Park using USATF Certified Course #NY13031JG. The course shown recently expired and we are having Jeff john from BuffaloRunners.com recertify prior to the race! The 1 Mile Walking course (non-timed event) is also shown below.

REGISTRATION & PACKET PICKUP
Online registration will remain open right up until the start of the race. Packet pickup and race day registration will take place at the Casino from 11am right up until the start of the race at 1pm. All participants (6 and older) will receive a complimentary custom baseball style running hat along with light Colombian food/snacks after the race.

Virtual Registration Option: $30.00 (includes shipping of race hat!)
Can't make the race... Participate virtually! Simply sign up for the Virtual Race option and you get to choose the location and time to get out on your own and run or walk your 5K between 5/1/24 and 6/1/24. Feel free to use the FREE IYR Virtual App to track and score your run. You will also be able to manually enter your finish time directly to the IYR Results Page starting on 5/1/24 and ending on 6/1/24. We will automatically mail out your race hat the week after the race! Virtual participants are not eligible for the awards. (Continental USA only for shipping).

POST RACE CELEBRATION
Race organizers will provide light Colombian food/snacks and refreshments for all registered participants after the race along with the 5K awards ceremony planned for 2:15pm.

PARKING
There will be plenty of free parking at Como Lake Park close to the casino and finish line!

AGE GROUPS & AWARDS
Medals will be presented to the top overall male and female 5K runner. Custom age group medals will be presented to the first place male and female runners in each of the following age groups:

Age Groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and older.

CANCELLATION POLICY
There will be no refunds. In the event of foul weather, public safety concerns, or for any other reason deemed necessary by race organizers (ex: state of emergency, etc), we reserve the right to postpone/reschedule the event at our discretion or offer a virtual alternative if necessary.

TIMING & FINISH LINE SERVICES
Professional timing and finish line services using industry leading Jaguar Electronic RFID timing will be provided by Race Management Solutions. Results are updated throughout the race in real time and can be accessed at any time after crossing the finish line using any one of the following options:
